Slimming World members in Bedford are celebrating losing weight by donating their clothes to charity on Saturday 19 May.
Linking in with a national campaign, members of the Bedford Slimming World group have been invited to donate any of their clothes, shoes, bags and accessories that no longer fit, or are not needed, to Cancer Research UK.
Viking Self Storage Bedford are supporting this great cause by offering their space on the day for slimmers to drop off their bags at the Caxton Road, Elms Farm Industrial Estate store.
With Viking always keen to support charity events in the local area, this is a way that the premiere storage service can contribute to a worthy cause. Speaking ahead of the event, Charlie Schneider, sales and marketing manager at Viking Self Storage said: “We supported this last year and it was a great day. If we can support all these great people, who have worked hard to lose weight, and donate to charity by offering a storage space, then we’re delighted to do so.”
Each bag donated is worth around £25 to Cancer Research UK and, with obesity the biggest cause of cancer after smoking, there is an extra incentive to lose weight and outgrow clothes.
Local weight-loss consultant Susan runs the Bromham group, and says the annual Big Slimming World Clothes Throw is one of her favourite events in the calendar. “We’ve held a Big Slimming World Clothes Throw event for four years now, and this year I know it’s going to be even bigger and better.
“Last year we collected so many bags we filled two giant storage lockers and we’d love to beat this in 2018. It’s such a liberating feeling having the confidence to bag up clothes you’ll never fit into again, all while raising money for an extremely important cause. My members can’t wait to make room for a new summer wardrobe by taking part – I know the atmosphere in the group will be electric when we bring all the bags together!”
During the donation period on Saturday, 9:30am to 12pm, there will be a special appearance from the Mayor of Bedford, Dave Hodgson and Viking’s own mascot Victor the Viking.
